Karuna Ramachandran

Karuna Ramachandran is the Redistricting Director of ProGeorgia, Georgia’s state-based non-partisan voter engagement advocacy organization, and leads the Georgia Redistricting Alliance (GRA) coalition of ProGeorgia table members. ProGeorgia is a dynamic alliance that advocates for a fair and inclusive democracy, amplifying the voices of historically marginalized groups.

In her role as Redistricting Director, Karuna shapes and oversees wide-ranging programs to protect and expand voter participation and voting rights through cutting-edge research and publications, litigation, legislative and policy advocacy, and public education. Through GRA, Karuna expanded the coalition to 67 active organizations in Georgia’s 2021 and 2022 redistricting cycle and worked year-round on census and redistricting issues.

Prior to joining Pro Georgia, Karuna was Deputy Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta (formerly AALAC), where she defended, protected, and advanced the rights of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, Native Hawaiians and other immigrants at all levels of government.

During her leadership, Karuna directed 2020 Census work and contributed to making communities of color feel empowered, actively engaged in civic affairs, and collaboratively strive toward equitable treatment.

Karuna previously directed community-based public health programs aimed to reduce health disparities of AAPI and refugee communities of Georgia, as the Health Programs Director for CPACS, Center for Pan Asian Community Services, Inc. Before that, Karuna worked at New York City's Department of Youth and Community Development as their project manager, where she learned the power of positive youth development towards the mental, emotional, social and economic health of future generations. With a focus on centering BIPOC communities, Karuna brings 16 years of experience of nonprofit work to her position. Karuna lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
